Early in quarantine we were given an incredible opportunity to help support people in the local dance community thanks to one of our donors. Our series of Covid Collaborations, sponsored by the Miner Nagy Family Gift Fund, allow us to support upwards of forty local artists through this difficult time. Against the Odds: Quarantine Edition began with commissions. Four local companies/choreographers were commissioned to create a new work about adaptation. Rehearsals will take place from quarantine allowing us to get money into artists hands and give them the opportunity to use this time to be both creative and productive. The four companies/choreographers will be broken into two pairs, creating collaborative work between each pair. Throughout the process choreographers will have access to a range of resources from Monkeyhouse including mentoring, workshops and more. Once quarantine is lifted companies/choreographers will be given studio space at The Dance Complex to continue their work in person. Each pair will present a collaborative concert at the Multicultural Arts Center in the winter.
Monkeyhouse's Against the Odds: Quarantine Edition will support at least five choreographers, ten performers, three designers, and three nonprofit organizations. We are honored to be the facilitators for such a wonderful experience!
